Update on Upcoming Changes

This summer has been wild. I’m sure your summer has been very much like mine and seems to have vanished in an instant. I spent some time reflecting on my summer and it was good to think through all that had happened. It’s easy to forget about the trip to Colorado, camps at Adventures, and quality time with friends.

What was your summer like? What were some good times from the past few months? It’s important to sit with those memories and continue to let them build us up. I know I need to sit with the good parts of my life five times as often as with the bad.

While a few good things have happened, I want to share with you about a good thing that will soon happen. I’m transitioning into a new role at Adventures in Missions!

I have been in discussions with the head of our HR department for a few months and as of this past week, it is officially happening. (We first needed to find someone to fill my role in Long Term Missions.) Starting in early September, I will officially begin work as the recruiter for Adventures and manage our alumni department.

How did we get here?: I’ve been in the Long Term Department for exactly one year now, and my role shifted over that time to do admin work for current long-term bases, help start new long-term bases, and recruit teams to fill those bases. The recruiting portion was exciting for me and I continually stepped into that space more or more. The HR Director noticed then and asked me if I wanted to make that a full-time gig. After some discussion, we started moving forward with more conversations until all of the pieces fit together!

So what is the new role? My job is split into thirds: Recruiting, Alumni, and Other.

As the Recruiter, I will help staff Adventures will the best talent available and help find leaders for many of our trips. I’ll get to interact with talented and driven people and use my skills in understanding and relating to people to find the best fit for them at Adventures.

As the Alumni Manager, I will continue ensuring we steward the 4,000+ World Race alumni in the best way possible. We’re looking to host conferences and trainings, continue to find more engaging ways to keep alumni connected, and, most importantly, continue to encourage alumni to build the Kingdom of God wherever they are. I’ll get to manage events, plan conferences, interact with alumni all over the world, and continue building them up in the Lord.

And the Other is just…ya know, other stuff. Miscellaneous HR tasks that aren’t worth blogging about. Paperwork, yeaaaaah.

I’ll transition in early September, and then run my first event in mid-September, so it’s going to be a trial by fire. But I feel the Lord’s peace and drive in this, so I’m ready for the challenge.

I’d love to answer any questions you have about my new role, my time in Long Term Missions, or my future with Adventures. You all have joined me in this journey so far and I’m blessed to do this transition alongside you.

If you have any questions about my new position, please let me know!
